THE VYPER STORY
Narrated by Dayne Rusch
THE START
After graduating from UW Oshkosh, I had a burning desire to build a business around products that solved major problems, I just didn't know what that product would be.
Our father, Chris Rusch, at the time founded and owned a company called Rusch Machine & Design (RMD), one of the most recognized brands in the metal shaping industry.
With our father being the smartest man I know, from building a Pietenpol airplane from scratch to working alongside the Monster Garage team to build a flying car, he spent majority of his life in the garage.
THE FIRST PROTOTYPE
While spending over 35+ years of his life in the garage, one of his biggest pain-points was the cheap, poorly made, overseas stool he was using. The thin seat, tiny casters and faulty hydraulics took a toll on his knees and back, and have even caused him to be on the floor more times than he should've.
This frustration pushed him over the edge and we immediately went to the drawing board. We made a list of all the pain-points that came from that cheap, red stool. With the list of problems we had to solve and with our father being one of the sharpest engineers of our time, he designed the first ever Vyper Chair.
A shop chair that eliminated every single pain-point that the poor little red stool caused.
FOCUSING ON PROBLEM SOLVING
Unlike many companies that try to develop the cheapest product with the highest margins, we instead developed a product that solved all of our problems that was made from the highest quality materials. Not only that, but a product made right here in the USA.
Once we had a fully developed product that was tested thoroughly, I hired a buddy to help take photos and built a website the next day. After sending some samples to some influential players in the space, Vyper Chair was born and started to build traction.
I QUIT
As Vyper continued to grow, our father made the decision to sell his company. At the time, my brother Dylan was working at RMD for over 15 years. After the acquisition, he didn't see much opportunity for growth in his current position. The growth Vyper was having also caught his interest.
At this point (2020-Q1 2021), it was only myself running the company and let's just say, I had my boots filled. I called my brother and laid it straight: "Hey man, this company is growing, want to jump on board and we can do this together?"
A few short months after, Dylan left his well-paying full-time job, took a major risk and joined his younger brother (me) at Vyper. This trust and confidence he had in myself and Vyper will never go unappreciated.
ALEX FROM FLORIDA
As Dylan and I continued to pour our hearts and souls into Vyper, we received a call (Q2 2021) from this guy named Alex from Orlando, who was a recent buyer of a Vyper Chair a week before the call.
"Guys, I absolutely love what you're building. This product is one of the greatest products I've ever purchased. I want to be a part of the team".
At the time, we couldn't afford a full-time employee, but that didn't matter to Alex. He loved the company so much that he ended up working 3 months for free. That right there is dedication.
We brought Alex on full-time in Q2 2021 as our Social Media Manager and has worked his way up to Head of Brand and Partnerships. Alex has played a fundamental role in the growth of Vyper and is a brother to Dylan and I.
THIS IS JUST THE START
After bringing Alex on full-time along with adding many more core leaders to the Vyper Team, along with proving to the industry that Vyper products are worth every penny, we have had the privilege to continue year over year growth at staggering rates.
The most exciting part is we are just getting started. With an array of products in queue, we are beyond excited to bring more quality, American made products to the market. Products that you feel proud to have in your garage. Products that solve your problems and make your life easier. Products that you trust and know come from a humble team.
We will continue to pursue our mission statement day by day: To deliver exceptional products that exceeds our customers expectations, every time.
